Welcome…

…to the home of Ecclesbourne 150 – a year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Duffield to Wirksworth branch, known today as the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.

2017

EVR 150 is a celebration, comprising a set of events to commemorate several anniversaries that will fall due in 2017.

Five anniversaries fall in 2017:

1. The 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Wirksworth Branch.

2. The 70th Anniversary of the end of passenger services.

3. The 50th Anniversary of the closure of the Cromford & High Peak Railway.

4. The 25th Anniversary of the founding of WyvernRail, who reopened the line.

5. The 20th Anniversary of the founding of EVRA - our supporters association.

A community celebration

Ecclesbourne 150 is a celebration of people and their community as much as it is a celebration of a railway.

When opened, the line acted as a conduit for trade to and from Wirksworth. At its nadir in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the community was lost but since the line's restoration and reopening, not only does it act once more as a route to Wirksworth but it has at its heart a community of 1,500 shareholders and volunteers.

Ecclesbourne 150 serves to celebrate this sense of community surrounding the line.

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

Running from the junction station of Duffield just to the north of Derby, the railway runs along the beautiful valley of the River Ecclesbourne, a tributary of the Derwent, to Wirksworth: a hugely individualistic and unspoiled town of ancient buildings, hidden alleyways, interesting pubs and shops well worth searching-out.
